Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

Do you have any cherished recipes from your childhood that still bring you cravings? One such recipe for me is chipped beef on toast. I’m fully aware that it’s not a fancy or healthy dish, but I simply adore it.

Chipped beef on toast holds a special place in my heart because my mom and dad used to make it for us frequently when we were growing up. It has always been one of my absolute favorite breakfasts. However, due to its nutritional drawbacks, I limit myself to preparing this recipe only once a year, typically on my birthday.

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

1 jar of dried beef slices, rinsed well and chopped
4 tbsp butter
4 tbsp flour
Pinch of cayenne pepper
2 cups milk
Sea salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste
Toasted bread
Instructions:

Rinse the slices of dried beef thoroughly to remove excess saltiness. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
Chop the beef into small, bite-sized pieces. Set them aside.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add the flour and a pinch of cayenne pepper to the melted butter. Whisk the mixture until well combined and cooked through, which should take about 45 seconds.
Slowly pour the milk into the saucepan while whisking continuously.
Once all the milk has been added, incorporate the chopped dried beef into the mixture.
Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, for a few minutes until it thickens.
Taste the creamed chipped beef and season with sea salt and freshly cracked pepper according to your preference.
Serve the creamy chipped beef on top of toasted bread immediately. Enjoy this delightful dish!
Indulge in the nostalgic flavors of childhood and savor the satisfaction of chipped beef on toast.
