Many of us go about our days without even realizing how fortunate we are. To be able to appreciate the stunning hues of the world and those we care about, listen to a song that sends chills down our spine, or watch a movie that makes us cry is something that too many people take for granted. Imagine if you were to lose one of your senses; what would your life be like if you did?
An incredible opportunity was granted to a man from Denver who had lost his sight 21 years ago due to Stargardt disease – an illness that gradually gets worse over time and can eventually lead to legal blindness. He was given the chance to see his wife and kid for the first time in his life, which was shown on TV and thus people all around the world were able to witness.
Gene is a young man who lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife, Joy. The pair have one child together, a boy named Lincoln. Gene had never been able to see the love of his life or his own kid… until Joy saw a guest on The Rachel Ray Show that was also afflicted with Stargardt disease.
Wearing a pair of electronic glasses, the guest was able to view the things he cherished. Joy then tried to contact the show in order for her husband to be invited. Her prayers were answered, and the three family members went on The Rachel Ray Show.
On set, he was handed the pair of electronic glasses. He put them on and glanced over at his wife for a few seconds before opening his mouth and stating, “She’s pretty,” after which a hurricane of emotions swept through him.
This is undoubtedly a wonderfully emotional event, and it’s a reminder of how fortunate we are to have such incredible things in our lives.
