Texas Rangers rookie Evan Carter showed wisdom and caring well beyond his years when the 21-year-old outfielder announced he would be taking part in a “Jesus Won” campaign just days after winning Major League Baseball’s World Series.
Carter was an important late-season addition to the Rangers’ squad when he was called up in September. He featured heavily in the team’s postseason run, appearing in 17 games in the playoffs and batting an astounding .300 during that stretch. Carter played a pivotal role for the team and provided a necessary boost to the bottom of a star-studded lineup.
Now, Carter has announced that he has partnered with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to sell a shirt that reads “Jesus Won.” Carter’s number 32 is displayed on the sleeve along with his initials, EC. Proceeds from the shirt will be going to charitable causes.
Carter posted, “My wife and I have partnered with FCA to bring the Jesus Won T-Shirt to you, and to support a great cause. You can represent the Texas Rangers by purchasing a blue and red shirt, or for our hometown people there is an orange and black option to represent the colors of local schools in our area. Both will have “EC 32” on the sleeve.”
According to Carter’s Instagram, proceeds from the shirt will go toward his hometown of Carter, Tennessee. The money will be used to help the local church and to lift the community up financially.
Carter wrote, “Our mission is to use the platform that baseball has blessed us with to give back to our community in Carter County, TN. Proceeds from your purchase of a Jesus Won t-shirt will jointly benefit two incredible programs in our community.
“One being Central Cares, a program from our home Church of Central Community Christian Church, which helps provide for children in impoverished situations. The second will be helping provide an environment for young baseball players in our area to succeed.”
Evan Carter impressed on the baseball field, but now he is impressing fans and members of rival teams alike with his show of care and love for his hometown. Even at the top of the baseball world, having won the championship, Carter took time to set up a charitable opportunity to glorify God and to support his hometown.
In a time where his persona is at the highest point of fame that it has ever been, the 21-year-old seems to be more than ready only to use that time in the limelight to help others and to bolster the community that raised him and gave him the skill and opportunity to live his dream.
Carter is living out the core values posted to the FCA’s website where the shirt is selling. The FCA shares its mission, saying, “Our relationships will demonstrate steadfast commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word through Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.”
