Pat Sajak has wrapped up his final episode of Wheel of Fortune, marking the end of an era for the iconic game show. The veteran host bid farewell to the spinning wheel this summer.
Announcing his decision to depart from the long-running show in June 2023, the 77-year-old Sajak shared, “Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all,” on X. His successor, Ryan Seacrest, was also unveiled in the same month.
“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest remarked upon the announcement. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.”
Deadline confirmed on Friday that Sajak’s final episode, serving as the Season 41 finale, has been recorded. While Sajak is stepping down from his hosting duties, Vanna White will continue to grace the Wheel of Fortune stage. Additionally, Sajak has committed to serving as a consultant for the show for the next three years.
Taking over the helm of Wheel of Fortune from Chuck Woolery in 1981, Sajak has garnered 19 Daytime Emmy Award nominations during his illustrious 40-plus years as host.
It’s indeed a somber moment for fans of Wheel of Fortune as the beloved Pat Sajak bids adieu. However, anticipation is high to see the fresh perspective Ryan Seacrest will bring to the show.
