A Heartwarming Act of Kindness: Jesse and Marie Hulscher’s Story
Jesse and Marie Hulscher of Willmar, Minnesota, experienced the happiest day of their lives with the arrival of their newborn son, Adler. However, their joy was quickly overshadowed by the breakdown of their home furnace, just as a blizzard was forecasted to hit their region.
“I panicked instantly,” Jesse shared with FOX 9. “We had a two-year-old at home, a newborn coming in a few days, and the big snowstorm was on the way.”
With the impending snowstorm and Adler’s birth coinciding, Jesse knew he had no time to waste. He left his wife and newborn at the hospital to address the broken furnace at home.
In desperate need of immediate assistance, Jesse called Magnuson Sheet Metal. On the phone, he expressed his urgent need to get the furnace fixed to ensure his newborn wouldn’t have to endure the frigid Minnesota weather.
“He said, ‘the fan’s not working, the furnace isn’t working, my wife is in the hospital, we just had a baby yesterday,’” recalled Magnuson co-owner Craig Aurand. “I just said, take it easy. We’ll be right there.”
Magnuson promptly sent a technician who quickly repaired the furnace. Jesse was immensely grateful to have the heat restored before bringing Adler home.
When Jesse informed Maria that the furnace was fixed, they were both greatly relieved. Their newborn wouldn’t have to face the cold of a Minnesota blizzard shortly after his birth.
Then came the matter of the repair bill. Jesse was astonished when he opened the invoice.
“I looked at the receipt, and it said, ‘no charge, take care of the new baby,’” Jesse recounted.
Maria was equally shocked, saying, “I was like, what? No. This can’t be real. And he’s like, ‘I know, I can’t believe it either.’”
The couple shared a photo of the invoice on Facebook, and it quickly went viral.
“Can’t thank them enough for the great service, speedy response time, and amazing technicians. Businesses like this earn customers for life!” Jesse wrote in his post.
Despite the positive attention, Magnuson Sheet Metal’s owner assured the family that their act of kindness wasn’t for publicity.
“We didn’t do it for the PR. We just did it to be good people. That’s it. Just to be nice to these people,” co-owner Craig explained. “That’s what this is about.”
