MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar visited the site of Wednesday’s tragic attack at Annunciation Catholic School and Church, where two children lost their lives and 17 others were injured.
Omar, who represents the district, spoke with reporters outside the church on Thursday. “My heart breaks for the families and the victims of this tragic mourning year in Minneapolis,” she said. “We are going to learn more about motives and what more can be done to make sure we can avoid tragedies like this.”
She later shared a longer statement across her social media accounts: “I am beyond heartbroken over the tragic news of the shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The loss of life is unthinkable. As a mom and Minneapolis resident, my heart is utterly shattered. I will keep praying for all the families impacted by this tragedy.”
Omar added: “I am especially thinking of the two beautiful children who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence. While we do not yet know the shooter’s specific motivations, we do know that children and schools are all too often the victims of horrific violence in this country.”
